Retail Holiday E-Commerce Spending Up 18%

For the week ending Dec. 7, consumers spent 4.58 billion online, a 20 percent increase year-over-year. Figures from the Reston, Va.-based company that records digital data excludes travel, auctions, and large communal purchases.

“It was a terrific kick-start to December, but we expect the upcoming week to be the heaviest online spending week of the holiday season as the procrastinators and late-season deal-seekers come out in earnest,” said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni.

Online holiday spending for the season is projected via through comScore to increase 20 percent from the prior year and sum $29.5 billion.
